FNN Interview - Markus Beyer

By ROBERT JONES - FightNightNews Staff Writer

1. YOU HAVE HAD A LONG CAREER BUT REPORTS ARE THIS FIGHT WILL BE YOUR BIGGEST PURSE? ARE YOU THINKING OF RETIREMENT OR ONLY OF BEATING KESSLER?

M.B: "What means I had…, I still have a long career. I never think about things like that before a fight. I get in the ring, because I want to win a fight. What happens after the fight doesn't interest me before."

2, KESSLER SAYS YOU ARE A HARD MAN, MEANING TOUGH, AND THAT HE IN NO WAY EXPECTS AN EASY FIGHT. HOW DO YOU AND MIKKEL MATCH UP IN STYLE?

M.B: "And so is he. How Mikkel and I match up in style, we will see when we are in the ring together, face-to-face. The one who has the better tactics will win."

3. DO YOU THINK KESSLER MIGHT GET OVERHYPED BY HIS HOME CROWD AND MAKE MISTAKES TRYING TO IMPRESS THE DANISH FANS?

M.B: "Of course it is a pressure. He might want to impress the fans, but I can't really answer that question, you have to ask him."

4. DO YOU THINK THE WINNER OF THIS FIGHT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED SUPERIOR TO JOE CALZAGHE? WILL YOU KEEP ON FIGHTING, WIN OR LOSE AND DO YOU STILL HOPE TO FIGHT SUPER JOE?

M.B: "It was my goal to fight Calzaghe already before. For different reason it did not worked out. But it is still my goal, doesn't matter how the fight against Kessler is going to end up."

5. RUMORS ARE CIRCULATING IN AMERICA THAT THERE IS SOME SORT OF TV DISPUTE BETWEEN YOUR PROMOTERS AND KESSLER'S. IS THIS ARGUMENT SOMETHING THAT WOULD CAUSE YOU TO PULL OUT OF THE FIGHT?

M.B: "Kessler and I go in the ring to fight. Everything else should be sorted out by the promoters. I am looking forward to a good, interesting and fair fight."

6. DESPITE HIS UNBEATEN RECORD, IT SEEMS CLEAR THAT KESSLER HAS NOT YET FOUGHT SOMEONE WITH YOUR RECORD AND TOUGHNESS? IS THAT A FAIR STATEMENT?

M.B: "I have never have been interested by a record. Doesn't matter how it looks like. But I have to say that Kessler was fighting really good boxers the last few time. He is a tough fighter."

7. IT LOOKS LIKE THE WBA AND WBC WILL BOTH APPOINT OFFICIALS? DO YOU FEEL YOU WILL GET FAIR TREATMENT IN KESSLERS HOMELAND? DO YOU EXPECT A BIG CONTINGENT OF YOUR FANS AND FRIENDS TO COME FROM GERMANY TO COPENHAGEN?

M.B: "I hope so."

8. ANY PREDICTION FROM YOU?

M.B: "I never do that."

9. A GERMAN FRIEND OF MINE SAID YOU WOULD FORM YOUR OWN BOXING MANAGEMENT AND PROMOTION COMPANY WHEN YOU RETIRE. DO YOU PLAN TO COMPETE WITH THE BIG PROMOTERS LIKE UNIVERSUM AND SAUERLAND SOME DAY?

M.B: "I already founded the company 12Rounds (www.12rounds.de). It is a Sports marketing and management company. But we are definitely not competing with any promoters. We are not a promoter. Indeed we are working together with some promoters and managers.

"We support boxing and other sports, as well as artists. Beside that we train kids to get them stronger in there beliefs, to give them a focus and a future. I want to give something back of what I had and have. The trainings are called buddykids.de and teendefence.de."

10. IS IT IMPORTANT TO YOU TO GET JOE CALZAGHE IN THE RING BEFORE YOU RETIRE, OR WOULD YOU BE FINE WITHOUT EVER FACING HIM?

M.B: "Like I already said. He was and is my favorite opponent."

11. IF YOU CAN'T GET JOE CALZAGHE INTO THE RING ANYTIME SOON, WHO ELSE IS ON YOUR POTENTIAL WISH LIST?

M.B: "There are a few really good fighters. Let me do the fight vs. Kessler first, than we will see."

(Thank you very much for taking the time to translate these to German, then back to English again, it is very much appreciated.)
