Tsurkan headlines
stellar lineup of
fights December 8.
Joe DeGuardia’s Star
Boxing proudly
announce their next
event, an eight-bout
night of
professional boxing
at “the most
spectacular and
grandiose theater
ever built in the
United States,” the
Paradise Theater in
Bronx, New York, on
Friday, December 8.
Fighting in the main
event will be
Ukrainian strongman
Andrey Tsurkan
(24-2, 15 KOs) in a
12-round defense of
his NABF Light
Middleweight
Championship. Star
Boxing President Joe
DeGuardia says that
with Tsurkan, it’s
nearly impossible to
have a boring fight.
“The networks and
fans love Andrey
because he’s all
guts and heart. This
upcoming fight is
very important for
him. He had a very
big win his last
time out against
Hector Camacho Jr.
(TKO 8) and we think
a couple more
high-profile
victories and he’ll
be in line for a
world title fight.
DeGuardia says the
venue for his latest
event will add
another dimension to
the festivities.
“We’re very pleased
to be staging our
latest show at such
a breathtaking venue
as the Paradise
Theater. It’s really
something to see if
you haven’t been
there since it was
restored.”
The Paradise Theater
was originally named
the Loews Paradise
Theater and was
opened in 1929.
Meticulously
adorned, this
majestic venue adds
a classic and
stately feel to the
events it hosts. In
the past couple of
years, the theater
has been completely
restored to its
original beauty.
The exciting
undercard for this
special event will
be announced soon.

November 14, 2006
- Mexico City. From WBC
President Jose
Sulaiman:
PACQUIAO-MORALES FOR
THE WBC
INTERNATIONAL
CHAMPIONSHIP
The World Boxing
Council ratifies the
approval and
celebration of the
fight in which the
WBC International
champion Manny
Pacquiao of the
Philippines will
make a defense of
his title against
Erik Morales of
Mexico next
Saturday, November
18, in Las Vegas,
Nevada, under the
promotion of Top
Rank.
Both fighters were
subjected to the WBC
regulatory seven day
pre-fight weigh-in
with the witnessing
of WBC
representatives,
with both being
within the tolerance
making 136 pounds.
In addition to the
WBC International
title being
disputed, the
General Assembly of
the WBC during the
44th annual
convention in
Croatia, following
the rules and
regulations, decreed
this fight to be as
a final elimination
bout to name the
official challenger
for the super
featherweight title,
as Pacquiao is
ranked No. 1 and
Morales No. 2 in a
division that has
not had a mandatory
defense during the
last two years, for
different reasons.
The WBC thought this
ruling a high
distinction and
honor for both
fighters, just as
for the WBC, as it
is without doubt one
of the most highly
expected and best
fights that could be
promoted today.
I have read in the
press that neither
promoter Bob Arum
nor challenger Erik
Morales had accepted
this fight as a
final eliminator,
which they have the
right to do, but
there was no reason
to express unfair
and hurting words
that blast a whole
life of support and
friendship from the
WBC for both, for no
reason at all, as
the ruling was in
their benefit, their
prestige and an
honor. Arum's
statement about
Soto's having fought
a final elimination
bout is false as he
picked the rival,
not the WBC, in what
was approved as a
simple elimination
bout, but NEVER a
final eliminator.
It was a surprise
coming from our
friend Erik Morales,
for whom I have even
been criticized for
acting as if he is
my adopted son, and
from whom nothing
but respect should
he offer to the WBC;
but Bob Arum's
behavior is no
surprise to me as he
just can't help it
in his insistent
nasty comments and
his permanently
belligerent verbal
attitude, even
offending and
hurting his own
friends, just as we
believe that we are.
It would not be
surprising if he is
calling us next
Monday for the
planning of another
project.
Manny Pacquiao, the
WBC's International
champion, has not
declined his
participation in a
final elimination
bout in respect to
the WBC'S ruling and
therefore, if he
wins, in addition to
defending
successfully his
title, Manny
Pacquiao will be
declared the
official challenger
to the super
featherweweight
championship of the
world, in the hands
of WBC champion
Marco Antonio
Barrera.
The Johnny Bos Roast- a.k.a.
BosFest 2006 - scheduled for
Friday, Nov. 17, at the
Waterfront Crab House, has
been postponed until
January.
BosFest organizers Mike
Marley and Joe Dwyer, as
well as Bos himself, were
unaware that the Dr.
Theodore Atlas Foundation’s
annual fundraiser would be
taking place the night
before (11/16) in Staten
Island.
"I recognize that the Atlas
Foundation had booked their
date first," said Bos, "and
they do a wonderful service,
helping many needy people."
Bos, who has been waylaid
with costly medical bills
due to the congested heart
disease he suffers from, is
grateful to those who have
contributed already. The
money he has received from
certain members of the
boxing community should get
him through January -
physically and spiritually.
Those who have given can
rest assured, the show will
go on in January!
The specific date will be
announced next week. Thanks
for your understanding.
BLOOMFIELD, NJ (November 3,
2006) – Undefeated

announced today by Main
Events CEO Kathy Duva.
Crawford (12-0-1, 5 KO’s)
has knocked out three of his
last five opponents, two in
the first round. In his last
bout on Sept 16, 2006, the
25-year-old Paterson, NJ
native knocked out Adam

Former world heavyweight
champion Evander "The Real
Deal" Holyfield will
continue his quest to regain
the world title when he
takes on top contender Fres
Oquendo on Friday night,
November 10th at the
Alamodome in San Antonio,
Texas, it was announced by
Murad Muhammad, promoter of
M&M Sports, and Real Deal
Events.
"The Final Chapter
Continued: Holyfield V" will
be presented by M&M Sports
and Real Deal Events. Fox
Sports Net (FSN) will

under its Special Order

Holyfield, one of the great
heavyweight champions of the
modern era, has put forth a
stellar ring record of
39-8-2 with 26 victories
coming by way of knockout
during an illustrious career
spanning three decades. A
four-time world champion in
both the cruiserweight and
heavyweight divisions, the
proud native of Atlanta,
Georgia, has turned back the
challenges of such boxing
greats as Mike Tyson,
Riddick Bowe, Larry Holmes,
Michael Moorer and George
Foreman.
Now Holyfield is on a
campaign to return the
heavyweight championship to
the United States, and
Oquendo represents a stiff
challenge for the former
champion. A native of
Chicago of Puerto Rican
heritage, Oquendo is the WBO
Latino Heavyweight champion,
and has captured two
straight in his comeback
bid. Fres has posted an
excellent career slate of
26-3, including 16 knockout
wins, defeating the likes of
David Izon and Obed Sullivan
before losing a
controversial decision to
then-champion Chris Byrd.
"Many have said that Evander
Holyfield is stepping out
too strong, and he should
take his time in his
comeback the way George
Foreman did," said Muhammad.
"But Evander said all along
that it was injury and not
age that had derailed him.
"The American people believe
that the heavyweight belt
belongs here, and I believe
that Evander is the only
bona fide heavyweight who
can make that a reality in
his quest to become a five
time champion."

A number of issues were
addressed and reports given
on the closing day of the
World Boxing Council's 44th
annual at the Hotel Croatia.
WBC President Jose Sulaiman
reported that two former
world champions are in need
of financial help for
medical expenses. He said
that former WBC super
featherweight world Genaro 'Chicanito'
Hernandez is in need of
surgery on one of his eyes
which will cost between five
and nine thousand dollars,
and that former WBC
featherweight world champion
Guty Espadas is in need of a
surgery that will cost
around five thousand
dollars. President Sulaiman
suggested that the WBC cover
the costs, and the WBC Board
of Governors approved by
unanimous vote to pay
expenses in full for both
surgeries. WBC International
Secretary and WBC
International Championship
Chairman Mauro Betti of
Italy pledged $5,000 from
the WBC International
Championships.

Nothing, man. I am just really upset
right now. Last week I heard that maybe
I could get a rematch with Jeff Lacy on
HBO and now my people tell me that Lacy
doesn't want to fight me. That's bs.
This punk is going around calling
Calzaghe out for a rematch and Calzaghe
almost killed him. I beat Lacy and got
robbed and his punk ass won't give me a
rematch because he is scared.
So you lost some respect for Lacy?
Of course, especially when he want's to
fight some bum in his comeback fight and
not me. But I'll give him the benefit of
the doubt and say that maybe he doesn't
know about an offer to fight me and his
people are just protecting him like a
little girl. I guess they don't want to
see him take another beating. Or maybe
he is just scare to get two losses in a
row. I would end his career. One thing
is for sure, HBO should not let him
fight some bum. That's a big problem in
boxing, the networks let these top guys
fight nobodies.
When was the fight supposed to take
place?
Man, I think like December. I don't
care, it can be tomorrow, he is such a
punk that it would be a very easy fight,
especially since Calzage destroyed him.
He is finished and I would put an
exclamation point that this is the end
of his career if we fought.
Any last words?
Yeah, I am old school. I fight anybody,
anytime, anywhere. Maybe I have some
looses, but that can happen when you
fight the best in the world. People
forget that I have fought and had wars
with Joe Calzaghe, Eric Lucas, Thomas
Tate, Glen Johnson, Scott Pemberton
(three times) Marcus Beyer, James
Butler, and that punk-ass Jeff Lacy, who
I know I beat and would destroy a second
time. Also, I had some major injuries
for many of these fights. I fight wars
and I just wish boxing was like it was
in the old days, where warriors like me
get rewarded for fighting the most
exciting fights every time out against
the best in the world and guys like Lacy
get exposed for the frauds that they
are. Also, people forget that I am only
29 years old. But I go out on the line
every time out so that the fans can
enjoy a good fight.
Well thanks Omar. Boxing needs more
fighters like you. I hope you get the
fight.
Thanks, man. I read FIGHTNIGHTNEWS every
day and I really like the site. Also, I
want to thank my fans for their support.
They really help me get by when guys
like this duck me. I just hope Lacy gets
some courage together and agrees to
fight me.
The
'Kosovo Kid' Elvir Muriqi (31-3, 19
KOs) will appear in an exciting
light heavyweight scrap as one of
the many top-rated contenders
featured on promoter Joe DeGuardia's
next jam-packed Star Boxing event on
October 11 at the Westchester County
Center in White Plains, New York.
A hero and an inspiration in his
homeland during the Kosovo War,
Muriqi will face Moline, Illinois'
'Irish' Ted Muller (19-7-2, 19 KOs).
'Elvir has always been a tremendous
crowd pleaser, and who can forget
his ESPN fight of the year with Sam
Ahmad'" asked DeGuardia. 'Watching a
Muriqi fight is always fun, as he
brings out his passionate fans
(Kosovo and Albanian flags waving)
and the atmosphere is electric.'
The exciting card also feature s the
star from the original NBC's
"Contender" series and wildly
popular middleweight boxer, Joey
Gilbert (12-1, 9 KOs), as well as a
USBA Title clash between world-rated
junior middleweight contenders.
Gilbert, the practicing lawyer and
corporate exec, will take on Kansas
City's Keith Sims (25-12-1, 14 KOs)
in defense of the NABO Middleweight
Championship he won by stopping
rival Jimmy Lange last February. And
in another very special co-featured
attraction, Olympic Bronze Medalist
Terrence Cauthen (31-3, 8 KOs) of
New Jersey will challenge Brooklyn's
formidable USBA Junior Middleweight
Champion Raul Frank (27-5-2, 13 KOs)
in a 12-round title bout.
'We're proud to be able to bring
such high-quality shows to our home
state of New York and we know the
fans in attendance will enjoy this
exciting night of top-level
professional boxing,' said DeGuardia.
"The card has something for
everyone, as Elvir Muriqi's large
group of loyal fans will certainly

LOS
ANGELES - Two members of the Sycuan
Ringside Promotions stable will be
honored by the World Boxing Hall of
Fame at the 27th annual banquet of
champions in Los Angeles Oct. 14.
World Boxing Council and lineal
welterweight champion Carlos
Baldomir will be named 'Fighter of
the Year' and Israel Vazquez's
grueling fight with Jhonny Gonzalez
will be named 'Fight of the Year.'
Past
winners of the World Boxing Hall of
Fame 'Fighter of the Year' include
Oscar De La Hoya, Roy Jones Jr.,
Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley.
Inductees this year into the World
Boxing Hall of Fame include Roberto
Duran and Matthew Saad Muhammad.
Baldomir burst onto the national
scene by defeating Zab Judah Jan. 7,
2006, with a 12-round decision to
capture the title. He followed that
performance with a spectacular
ninth-round stoppage of Arturo Gatti
July 22. Currently, Baldomir is
training to fight Floyd Mayweather
Jr. Nov. 4 at the Mandalay Resort &
Casino in Las Vegas and live on HBO
Pay-Per-View.
'This has been a great year for me
so far, and I'm honored to be given
this award,' Baldomir said. 'But I
have some unfinished business to
take care of Nov. 4 that will leave
no doubt that I am the 'Fighter of
the Year.' '
Vazquez, the WBC super bantamweight
champion, rebounded from two early
knockdowns to take command of the
wildly entertaining fight with
Gonzalez Sept. 16, en route to a
10th-round stoppage.
'That was a war out there with
Gonzalez,' Vazquez said. 'I'm proud
I came out on top. I always try to
put on a great show for the fans and
I think we did just that.'
'Sycuan Ringside Promotions, of
course, is excited to be associated
with Carlos and Israel,' said Glenn
Quiroga, President of Sycuan
Ringside Promotions. 'They haven
proven themselves to be men who can
overcome all obstacles and succeed
above and beyond all expectations of
the so-called experts.'
'Carlos has been nothing short of
incredible this year and Israel had
me almost as weary watching his
fight as he must have been
participating in it,' said Scott
Woodworth, Vice President of Sycuan
Ringside Promotions. 'It's a banner
year for both gentlemen and a banner
year for Sycuan Ringside Promotions
as well.'
Newport
Beach, CA: Fight Promoter University
President and Founder Roy
Englebrecht has added a new wrinkle
to his Fight Promoter University
concept, with the announcement today
of an online Fight Promoter
University Promoter Message Board
and Forum.
Now for the first time, current or
aspiring fight promoters will have a
place to go to ask questions of
other promoters, exchange ideas,
promote their shows, and discuss
anything to do with boxing or MMA
promotions.
"The success of the first two Fight
Promoter University sessions has
been
overwhelming," said Englebrecht. "To
hear from FPU graduates who have
gone back
to their cities and promoted their
first show using many of the
techniques
taught at FPU, and have success, is
very humbling."
"My whole reason in starting Fight
Promoter University, was to give
people the
correct tools necessary to achieve
the same success in the fight
promotion
business that I have had, and it is
happening, continued Englebrecht.
Now with
the addition of a Fight Promoters
Message Board, anyone, anywhere
in the world
will be able to obtain information
from others on any subject."
Also featured on the updated Fight
Promoter University website at
fightpromoteruniversity.com, is
a photo review and testimonials from
the August
session of Fight Promoter
University, which featured
appearances by Jim Lampley
and Emanuel Steward.
