Evander Holyfield Update

Fres Oquendo to FightNightNews: "I will win the fight. I will knock the legend out."

A couple hours after talking to Fres Oquendo, Mike Marley was able to put me on the phone with Evander Holyfield. Holyfield, much like Oquendo, was busy with the many members of the press gathered at the press conference so he didn't have much time to talk.

Once again, I tried to get the best questions asked with about the five minutes I had with him.

Robert Jones: How your shoulders holding up and how is training camp doing?

Evander Holyfield: It's holding up great. Shoulder? I can't even tell I have a shoulder (laughs).

RJ: How good a feeling was it to get back in the ring after nearly two years away?

EH: It was definitely a good feeling. It put me on the right trail and built confidence and all these things here. A lot of times, life is all about the first step.

RJ: What do you expect Oquendo’s game plan to be? Take you deep, or try to go right after you early?

EH: I don’t really have any guess. I just train to the best of my ability to be able to fight hard if I have to and to box if I have to. I do both of them very well.

RJ: If you get by Oquendo do you think you’re next fight will be for a world title?

EH: Well, I will get by Oquendo. As far as fighting for a title next, we’ll have to see where that goes.

RJ: You said you would like to be unified champion by 2008. Would you fight past then if need be?

EH: Hopefully I’ll have that done. My thing is, I don’t like to speculate. I just like to take one day at a time.

Within a year and a half I should be the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

RJ: Any predictions for November 10th?

EH: Train, Train, Train! (laughs)
