My promise is to use my 40 years at ringside in various capacities--boxing
columnist, manager of world champions, vp of public relations for major
promoters and even--way, way back--as a ring announcer--to use in creating an intelligent boxing information source which is NEVER BORING! I don't mind admitting to being a boxing junkie. There is no known rehab for this addiction. |

As a kid, I started the very first (and grandly-named) International Cassius Clay fan Club. I was writing press releases at age 12 for Boston promotional legend Subway Sam Silverman. My two favorite fighters--then and now--were the guy who became Ali and Irish Joey Archer. The needle was in my mind, not my arm, early but I became a full-fledged junkie when I was privileged to be Ali's guest in Lewiston, Maine, when his Stepin Fetchit-taught anchor punch KO'd Big Ugly Bear Liston in one round. That was "the hot shot" that got me hooked on pugilism. That was so long ago there were more "world champs" in pro wrestling than in boxing. But I can't kick my habit. Besides, you know what they say now. Rehab is for quitters. The site will be a unique blend of New School and Old School, of fact, opinion and conjecture. I hope to enlist some of the best and brightest fight scribes extant not to mention some of the truly "boss" photographers and videographers to join me. Is that a word, viedographers or should I just say "shooters" withy video cameras? By the way, I plan to include humor but stay away from "fill in the name, he sucks" and the usual response of "no, fill in the name sucks worse." I invite your feedback, the good, the bad and the ugly. Hit me with your best shots. From the days when I "published" the Clay fan club newsletter "The Louisville Lip" on a mimeograph machine to The New York Post and now to the worldwide web it has been quite a trip. So let's get busy! |
