The Sam Peter camp reacted in a surprising way to the
WBC's tortured reasoning yesterday for ordering a rematch with James Toney: BRING - IT - ON!
"They want it, fuck it! They (Toney camp) should be careful what they wish
for," said Peter's manager, Ivaylo
Gotzev. |
|
"We feel it is a blessing in disguise. When it comes down to it,
let's do it! Fuck Dan Goosen (Toney promoter) and company. Now Goosen and Toney will have to face the moment of reckoning. We are going to stop at nothing. Sam is going to be in the best shape of his life. No one knows what he is capable of. He was only 50 per cent for the first
fight."
Gotzev revealed to FNN that last night his Nigerian
"Nightmare" had a dream about Toney before the WBC handed down
it's decision.
"I won't go into detail, but the dream was about kicking
Toney's ass," Gotzev said. "He saw in the dream that there was no stopping him
(Peter)."

Gotzev said he doubts if Toney even wants this fight.
"The only big question is will Toney be able to take the pounding the second time around. My feeling is he will probably run for the hills. My gut tells me he will kill the deal. He knows there is nothing he can do to change the outcome of the first
fight," Gotzev said.
The WBC told FNN in an email two weeks ago that they would make a decision on a rematch next month at their annual convention in Croatia. Asked why he thought the WBC made their decision early, Gotzev said: |
 |
|
"My guess is, there was a lot of pressure put on the WBC.
I'm not going to guess who why and when. Some will say it is (Toney co-promoter) Don King. You know what? Let Don King get what he wants. He
doesn't realize he did everybody a favor. All
that's left for us is to deal with Dan Goosen and his unreal demands, and his visions of grandeur.
He's going to be unreasonable, I will try to cut a deal, but if it
doesn't happen, screw it,
we'll go to purse bid. If I get a feeling Don King is going to be obnoxious about this, I am going to purse
bid" said Gotzev, whose WBO champion Sergei Lyakhovich is promoted by King.
"When Jose Sulaiman (WBC president) called me today, my first reaction was to tell him it was heartbreaking
news," said Gotzev, whose fighter won a close mandatory fight Sept. 2 that should have put him in line to face Oleg Maskaev, the WBC champ.
"Then I got on the phone with Sam, heard his dream, and said to him, ‘Look, this is your
destiny.'"
Gotzev remains adamant that the first fight was not controversial, as the WBC indicated in its press release, saying the controversy was instigate by the media.
"It wasn't controversial. The bias of the fucking West Coast writers made it
controversial," Gotzev said.
Gotzev said emphatically he was not given incentives to agree to this fight.
"They didn't sweeten the pot. There was no bribe to us. The fact is this fight will have a higher profile than any fight out
there," Gotzev said.
Higher than the Nov. 4 showdown between his fighter Lyakhovich and Shannon Briggs?
"For some sick reason, they (media)
aren't embracing this fight. They would rather see Sam fight fat ass Toney. So I say,
what's the point in doing battle outside the ring,
we'll do it in the ring and settle this once and for
all," Gotzev said.
Gotzev had lobbied the WBC not to order a rematch, and so it was expected he would be furious with the decision. Not so.
"People expected me to be ripping the decision, to shit on the WBC. But the decision has already been made. Fuck it. I am not going to be like some managers and promoters and get in a court battle. We are going to rock him (Toney) and roll him and tear him up. We are going to flat out kick Toney the fuck out of
boxing." |
